It took me a 200 page book to say what this video shows in 19 seconds: Protestors innovate with the tools at hand + imagination & in interplay with authorities. That's why mvmts need diverse constituencies: more brains & more ideas = more novel action! https://thegooddrone.pubpub.org/ https://twitter.com/stillgray/status/1168651035927175168 …

Not sure sure what the problem is here. The tweet doesn't say none of these tactics have been used elsewhere, right? For those of us who work in this space we're stoked to see innovation anywhere, and lots has been written on innovation in all sorts of mvmts, no?

Sure. But the tweet is 100% false, and is written by someone who is making a false claim to argue Asian protesters are “high-IQ” and somehow different. There is no innovation that’s being covered because the claim is not only false, it’s nonsense. 20k retweets I last checked...

The tweet is now at 35k, and it wrongly says liquid nitrogen, but what else is wrong? Also: people are at the tweet, which isn't an endorsement of everything else in the poster's feed ... Nothing about the post is mutually exclusive with great work at other protests, right?

The whole premise of the tweet is that it’s liquid nitrogen something high-tech and unheard of. I’ve been watching these protesters. They’re putting their bodies on the line with almost identical tools as anyone else. Doesn’t take away from anyone or their bravery. The opposite.

The context is I’ve been watching a lot of alt-righters make similar false claims, and making argument about “Asian high-IQ”. So it’s not an isolated error, it’s part of a pattern. And also shortchanges what these youngsters need: solidarity not fetishization. Hence my feelings.

Otherwise, sure everyone makes mistakes. But these false claims are part of an alt-right story being pushed. /end
