But the events reveal not just being "less than completely perfect" or some lack of tactical savvy (both of which arguably so) but a deeper, different issue, and if this movement doesn't honestly confront and find an effective way out, they cannot function against what they face.

what deeper, different issue does it reveal? they were angry at discovering a cop and propagandist in their midst... how should they have reacted?

there's a good playbook for this: you expel the person from the space as peacefully as possible, then distribute their face and identity widely to make sure they're unwelcome elsewhere.

Do *not do it quickly or quietly, or it will go by the boards and no one will know. Its absurd to whine about his treatment. It wasn't right, but ffs he's gonna have a couple bruises. That's 5 minutes of interrogation by the local cops in China. 3 by the secret police

You are wrong. That’s really not even close to what happened.

If not for the intervention of a few brave souls, the GT reporter either gets beaten to within an inch of his life or killed. Likely the same for the suspected mainland cop. Protestors blocked paramedics from reaching them or escorting them away for a long time

On the GT reporter. The livestream will tell you more than the injuries inflicted, many out for blood, stomping and one chased after him w/ a flagpole while he was stretchered away.https://twitter.com/maryhui/status/1161316734898331648 …

Mary HuiVerified account @maryhuiA "near lynching" is what WSJ is calling the detention of the man by protesters, confirmed by Global Times ed Hu Xijin to be a reporter for the nationalistic tabloid. The descriptor does not seem to me like an exaggeration at all. https://www.wsj.com/articles/hong-kong-protesters-overwhelm-airport-for-second-day-11565687274 …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

It weren’t for Rich, the medics who hung in there for hours with incredible poise, and the man who really heroically and somewhat miraculously cleared the way for the ambulance to be able to leave at the very end, we may have been talking body counts instead.
