I'm organizing a free, crowdfunded local class on internet privacy/basic hygiene. But I need help on the syllabus! What should a non-tech, mostly rural audience know about security and hygiene? RT for visibility please!

Here’s what I tell people, in order of importance: 0) Install your software updates. 1) Set up 2FA on your primary email account(s). Ideally Yubikey but SMS or TOTP better than nothing. 2) Prefer iOS over Android 3) Set up a password manager

I agree but I gotta say, password managers are really shit.
@Pinboard dropped them from basic hygiene training because it was impossible to get one installed and configured in less than an hour. Theyre vital pieces of security software and they don’t work for humans. IOS keychain2 replies 0 retweets 4 likes -

Or a paper notebook, if it works with your threat model

Paper notebook is sometimes the least worst option I suggest to people, especially with a very simple application of personalized steganography so there is one more step than just copying it. Password managers, nope. IOS keychain, yup.
