I'm in a situation where I want to move my SIM card from phone A (an iPhone) to phone B (Android) and back. I want to keep using Signal as I do this. Am I reading the Signal docs right that say "LOL, we'll delete all messages from your iPhone and Signal desktop" if I do this?

The desired behavior is that when I go back to using phone A, Signal picks up where it left off. The safety number will change, but message history on that device is preserved. However, that is not what reading the docs suggests will happen.

*waves in frustration* https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/996041436226293762 … I think Signal backup/portability is the biggest obstacle to more mainstream adoption. Bunch of regular people I know abandoned it basically over this.

I'll give up metadata to iMessage or to WhatsApp rather than deal with the inability to backup Signal. Literally, this is the biggest issue I've had trying to convert people to Signal. Now I'm converted out. I realize there are challenges but local back up should be an option!
