Another mass shooter, apparently another hateful manifesto.
Media: IT IS possible to cover his hateful ideology without using *his* chosen terms (meant to lead more impressionable young people to that ideology), without publishing his manifesto, or putting his face on a loop.https://twitter.com/elpasotimes/status/1157752762702213120 …

He murdered 20 people to get that term out there. Why not just say “a racist theory believed by some white supremacists” rather than repeating the phrase verbatim and doing voluntary SEO for recruitment into white supremacist terrorism? Why is this so hard? He murdered for this.

I'm seeing PoC suggest the pictures of the murderer(s) & name be publicized for the purpose of attaching his/their whiteness and hateful ideology to killings. I understand the point. Do you have thoughts about how to make white supremacy/racism more central to news coverage?

I think centering one person is counterproductive to centering white supremacy. If anything, that’s been my complaint for the that excessive focus on the shooter is making people miss the forest. Plus shooter profiles tend to humanize rather that explain the structural currents.
