Here's one of my many sad threads on this & links to some of my articles. Media (and everyone sharing things on social media!) should refuse to cooperate with this snuff film directed by the murderer. Reporting should not be done on the murderer's terms.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/963901406296985600 …

He murdered 20 people to get that term out there. Why not just say “a racist theory believed by some white supremacists” rather than repeating the phrase verbatim and doing voluntary SEO for recruitment into white supremacist terrorism? Why is this so hard? He murdered for this.

Getting specific doesn't mean using his chosen terminology or publishing his manifesto as is or putting his face or videos of panicked people on loop. If anything, it does the exact opposite. By all means, though, media should discuss all the structural issues and where he fits.

Indeed a hateful ideology that should not be spread. But shouldn't the media use this term? Time to call him a white supremacist _terrorist_? That word seems to be exclusively used for PoC or Black suspects by (U.S.) MSM

Media: IT IS possible to cover his hateful ideology without using *his* chosen terms (meant to lead more impressionable young people to that ideology), without publishing his manifesto, or putting his face on a loop.
