Fascinatingly, the only people I spoke with with minimal competence have been on the sale side. (But they can't do anything). It's just amazing what the United States has done to itself in terms of quality of life. These are all own goals.

The model in many industries is to automate as much of the support as possible while relying on poorly-paid, barely-trained support workforce if anything falls through (and a lot of things fall through.) That also means no incentive in creating a mass, educated well-paid society.

@ATT mistakenly billed me for 18 months for a line they should have cancelled and only agreed to refund me three months worth.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I recently had a conversation while in Seattle with an Xfinity rep who claimed that our problems with their service was limited to NM where we live. Such a lie. She shouldn't have asked what I thought of their service.

My first "Oh I see now this country is screwed up" experience of living in the US was finding out there was just one high speed internet service in *San Francisco* of all places, it was 1/4 the speed I had in the UK, 4 times as expensive, had usage caps, and interfered with data.

It’s even worse once you get the service installed and they’ve already got your money and you need to have something repaired

They’re all incompetent because of size and lack of competition, but you should be thankful the monopoly operator in your area isn’t
@GetSpectrum /@CharterCom In my experience, they set the lowest bar.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Strangely in New Zealand (a country with a lot of Government 'interference') we have choice. Anyone can choose between several internet providers and the service is good. I guess the USA does not really have a free market, just a worse one than ours.

Interesting irony since the US is always the #1 example for competition/free market/laissez faire discussions; "we need a competitive market like the States." Or was someone correct when they said the end result of capitalism is monopolies?

Are there no small indie ISPs in your area? I have found these to be the best options in SF at least. Used to work for one in NYC. They typically spy on you less, too.
