Right. I’m curious why deaths were so high in 1990. It wasn’t like cars suddenly got slower in 1991. I always think the “it’s cell phones!” is too easy a cop out that stops us from examining more aspects of driving. Cell phones r a factor, surely, but it’s got to be more complex

Could it be that in Europe cars are smaller and designed more with pedestrian safety in mind than in the US and that laws aimed at reducing driver distraction are more widely enforced?
