I think they haven't watched Minority Report yet. Any predictive algorithm will have it's flaws. Not to mention privacy aspect of this kind of surveillance
Isn’t this also just completely crossing the line? In the EU there is “an expectation of privacy” which basically means you can’t eavesdrop unless you can prove the data belongs to you (company vs personal) so this would fall foul. Also isn’t this an illegal search in the US?
“Prevention” is how they market it, but it’s really about identifying and undermining anyone who poses a threat to the status quo.
I would rather see effort go into a secure universal health record, along with universal care. Alone, each one would probably save far more lives than the surveillance systems.
Also, the ends do not justify the means. Yes, we could surely prevent or at least punish most crimes if everyone was under (automatic) surveillance all the time... but is formal safety based on institutionalised mistrust really something we want to live in?
