Decades of research shows job training programs don't work at scale because of lack of *supply* of appropriate good jobs. There are always nice learned-to-code stories (I'm one: started coding as a kid and it literally saved my life) but those don't scale.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/12/us/mined-minds-west-virginia-coding.html …
The military makes this work, somewhat, but it can come at great personal expense, too. (Basically you're agreeing to kill and/or die whatever war we may fight next). The difference, though, is that you get *paid* while in the military and good benefits afterwards. That's key.

I've seen 1. Bootcamps that pay you for a % of future earnings and 2. Companies that do extensive post-hire training. (again paid during training) but I'm wondering if there are companies with low/no bar to enter a paid training program that ends in a specific job (or washout).

The military gets a LOT of taxpayer funding to provide this education and employment. Corporations are expected to provide quarterly profits to shareholders. The equivalent non-military program is Job Corps https://www.jobcorps.gov/ Typically 18 months to complete, max age 24.

So, if I’m reading this thread correctly: the key to reskilling is that it leads into a guaranteed first job? To get over that entry-level job hurdle?
