Then you should say it’s on the companies to encourage nuance and better understanding through more transparency and contextualization. That would be good. Years of opacity has made it harder for everyone to understand the scale and scope of anything tbh.

Imagine a car company saying we don’t want to give you emission numbers because some environmentalist group misrepresented or misunderstood our release. I don’t see why we are supposed to understand it from the point of view of what’s inconvenient for the companies.
