This is such an extreme outlier I'm ready to believe that a nation state actor may have an expert AI team* reverse engineering and gaming social graphs and recommendation algorithms at scale silently. * Asymmetric black hat research (see below) and/or StuxNet level competent 1/Nhttps://twitter.com/gchaslot/status/1121603851675553793 …

Here I plotted the 84,695 videos that I collected last week with the number of views and the number of channels from which it is recommended. Russia Today's take on the Mueller report is the recommendation outlier. 8/ pic.twitter.com/E9zzV5XKbd

“Then the investigation revealed use of adversarial machine learning..” 😬😬 Though in reality it’s probably bunch of people employed to click stuff? That is indeed a big outlier!

"People employed to click stuff" (=lazy black hat mode) may well be sufficient - which is disturbing by itself. Even then it'd be easy to have your own version of https://algotransparency.org/  to track the impact on video recommendation after exploiting various click paths though.

Indeed, just the way phishing works so well so why bother but... ML is an attack surface waiting for its monetization model to wreak havoc. I wish, for once, we'd have a robust defense program before the weaknesses get exploited in the wild at scale. *waves at email*
