Also, yes, more rules are needed. But this industry spent a decade bending, pushing, and flouting all the *existing* rules—ignoring them in spirit, in practice and in effect. Now the very few that got that rich on that path want to some rules—but only in ways that entrench them.

The interview makes it sound like the problem is that the rules "aren't updated to the modern threats we face" which is also true, but my point is that Facebook actively, very actively, resisted applying existing rules which were very relevant to the "modern threats we face."
