Colonizing Mars is back-of-envelope out of the question as in so obvious that it hurts but when you have billions to spend, people don't tell you that or maybe you don't have to listen, I guess? Meanwhile, planet Earth, which can actually sustain life kinda needs attention.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I like my science fiction and what-if books and will even read scenarios. Fun! But it's such an example of the new gilded-age induced extreme stupidity that lots of smart people will go along as if it has anything to do with reality. That, and Juicero.

I'm all for basic research that may or may not have side benefits. But that's an honest conversation. The point here is that a few people have tons of money and are smart in one domain but are marks in another.
