Latest phishing: your "dean" emails (except it's their email at gmail dot com) asking for @Google play gift cards—and to scratch off pin and send a picture. Question: are such gift cards truly untraceable? Asking for someone who's emailing back and forth with the scammer atm.

At first I thought it was automated, but no they are responding in real time! (Hi! If you're reading this. Sorry you're in a meeting and in urgent need of gift cards! I'll do my best to buy them all). I know gift cards are a way to launder but was wondering why Google?

It's phishing/scam in real time so I'm just wondering how profitable/untraceable Google gift cards are. (Right now, "my dean" is trying to convince me not to drop them by in whatever meeting he's stuck at!) Also, fascinating, they wanted $700 worth.
