Latest phishing: your "dean" emails (except it's their email at gmail dot com) asking for @Google play gift cards—and to scratch off pin and send a picture. Question: are such gift cards truly untraceable? Asking for someone who's emailing back and forth with the scammer atm.

A few weeks back, a prof at Northeastern,
@ryancordell, received some very similar phishing emails. See thread:https://twitter.com/ryancordell/status/1089687116857131008 …Brett Bobley added,
Ryan Cordell @ryancordellCurrently on email #12 with a spammer impersonating my dean, who is apparently tied up in a meeting at 7pm on a Sunday & urgently needs me to buy five *physical* $100 Amazon gift cards & send her pictures of the card numbers. How long can I keep it going? Only time will tell… pic.twitter.com/LC1WdxlKInShow this thread1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -
