This is how Fox News “mainstreams” fringe conspiracy theories. And this is why we can’t simply measure the effects of online disinformation... because online information behaviors are integrated into broader, complex media dynamics with 2nd to nth order effects.https://twitter.com/travis_view/status/1109104000400412672 …

while Facebook had been trying to keep the Christchurch attack off their platform, the Daily Mail put clips of it on their homepage. the following morning, the DM called it the 'Facebook terror attack'. traditional media amplified the hate and then blamed social media for it

Fox News and the whole online ecosystem of disinfo and extremism seem to have the same goals. It's an outrage that we have a president and an administration who are actively promoting this hateful noise.

Which is why we're trying hard to bring in video, talk radio, etc. into Media Cloud. Hard work - we need a lot more collaborators who are talking seriously the connection of online disinfo to other channels.

Because news channels inherently use online platforms, you can measure using only online methodology. However, by the time you see a DisMis info story on a main news channel, its already been seeded online and is then just being amplified/legitimised by the news channel.
