See thread! Using security to further weaken privacy is a lousy move—especially since phone numbers can be hijacked to weaken security. Putting people at risk. What say you @facebook? https://twitter.com/jeremyburge/status/1101402001907372032 …

Phone number is such a private, important security link. But Facebook will even let you be targeted for ads through phone numbers INCLUDING THOSE PROVIDED *ONLY* FOR SECOND FACTOR AUTHENTICATION. Messing with 2FA is the anti-vaccination misinformation of security. Unconscionable.pic.twitter.com/zIQqc6QPoN

This is really horrific,
@faceboook. Does this also apply to@Whatapp. This puts absolutely amazing people fighting for democratic rights in their country at crazy high risk.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

People built online alternatives (like Znet that created Zsocial) yet even committed activists who knew better chose to use Facebook instead of those alternatives and then they withered away from lack of support Facebook sucks, but we should have never ever used it to begin with

What's 2FA?
-
2FA = "2 Factor Authentication", meaning your password, plus something else only you are likely to have, like a text to your phone, or presence of a coded "key" (search U2F), or a code from a time-based authenticator app (Google Authenticator, FreeOTP, 1Password). /
