Trying to opt-out of @Visa from selling or using my data takes me to an insecure http site and @Mastercard's has a broken image jpg that I assume is a captcha so won't work. They bury this stuff and apparently don't even maintain it so even if you accidentally find it, good luck.pic.twitter.com/Kb8eXHRXLM

I mean, it's 2019, and @Visa wants people to submit credit card numbers over http to try to opt-out of having very private data sold to whomever. ::headdesk::

Exactly. I think once you opt out is when your data gets lost in a pile and pushed to a million other vendors

About Visa. Its using HTTPS but with one part broken. Almost definitely still getting encryption of data in transit. No worse than an DV certified site which can connect you to bad guys very securely.

The point here isn't that https can't protect you against phishing but that this is a shocking display of inattention to tools that are supposed to let you opt-out. Modern browsers all give a warning at such sites, in case you aren't aware, and that makes it practically unusable.

Not to get off topic. Why not test the security of the Mastercard site at the Qualys SSL server tester?

Gonna say that even if you can opt-out the architecture of their data platform just throws everything in a lake and it’s going to get accessed by various partners downstream who will use it for these purposes anyway. Unless their platform has changed a lot in the past 3yrs.
