What does the contract say? Clearly there's a conflict of interest both ways but it merely involves risk and opportunity. Why would any business want that exposure outside of exploitation?

I thought so too, but it is pretty grey legally. You can extort someone as part of a negotiation as long as the action you propose is legal, so, it depends on your definition of "newsworthy" here. Every tweet/reply probably helps AMIs case oddly enough.
