Ugh, we have ADHD 7th grade with grades well below what's he's intellectually capable of, but we have had to change from parenting to the grades to parenting to the kid. Understand the kid, the rest will follow.

There's a difference between paying attention to feedback in the form of grades and using it as a metric. But in general, tight feedback loops using short term metrics are usually a bad idea when the outcome of interest is very long term.
