So there were.... 3 mainstream media articles, out the many TENS OF THOUSANDS of articles published on the 2016 campaign, that embedded Russian troll tweets? I'm afraid that's not really helping your argument.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1075845985182441472 …

Yes, that's exactly my argument, right? Three troll tweets is all there is, and that plausibly swung a close election.
Let me know if you want to argue against a stronger strawperson and I'll get back to it.3 replies 2 retweets 119 likes -

Your argument is lacking in any sort of systematic evidence, at all. If you think impression counts are an imperfect measure -- and surely they are -- then come up with something better.

In fact, it could easily be the case that the Russian troll posts were even *less* influential than the (already very low) raw numbers would suggest. Why? Because journalists are more likely to amplify known, trusted sources, and those accounts weren't known or trusted.

Were you reading the same press? Just "@ TEN_GOP" had 100K+ followers and got quoted all the time. Not a journalist was like wtf? Press falls for social media crap all the time. Hopefully they will get better. In the future.

That's just one single account. Point is any single direct RU thing is of course small but in total, especially with DNC hack plus surrounding info op, it seems big enough in how it affected the total ecology in context of US politics already all broken plus very close election.

I was referring to the 100K Ten_gop account as one account. What was most striking to me, which I cannot quantify because only FB+Twitter have the data, is the amount of DNC hack related screenshot/meme led stuff that went crazy viral in October 2016.

I've repeatedly written the key focus should be fixing the patient's resilience rather than obsessing over Russia but dismissing the RU stuff as unimpactful is wrong *because* it misunderstands the ecology, misses what we face *and* misses what resilence would look like.

Nate just hopefully said press would likely amplify trusted sources and not fall for social media crap. I wish! Press is old-guard and they do some things very well but not this. RU stuff is important because it shows how things work. How big or small? Big enough to analyze.
