Obviously, but I'm asking: if they actually pursue this policy, is there standing to take them to court and make it legally very, very expensive to shut women out like this? If anyone is having one-on-one meetings, everyone should.https://twitter.com/san_surname/status/1070739911358050304 …

Wouldn't it be simpler to treat one's colleagues, regardless of gender, with respect and professionalism? You know, as adults *should* interact?
-
I'm pretty sure, someone involved in this whole conversation thought about this. And it's not like they said "respect and professionalism? No fuck that, we prefer to risk discrimination lawsuits instead, even though risk management is precisely how I make a living".

Struggling to see how this is different from just...being Wall Street? Lessening legal risk seems to be the cover they’d always hoped for.

Good observation. When I worked in male-dominated law firm, all men would suddenly have to go to the restroom together. Cut me out of the conversation, and - last I checked -men rarely go to the restroom in groups. Lots of subtle ways to discriminate.
-
Interesting observation since group restrooming is normally associated with women. Traders will still find a way to get love, and botch it up. Millions of years of human evolution can't be overwritten by flimsy code of conduct paper.

One attorney says that in the piece, but I'm wondering because these companies obviously have *lots* of attorneys. Is the law not clear-cut enough?

Remember when this was what feminists fought against - all of the exclusionary behaviors/practices that prevented women moving up in orgs & being 'one of the boys' making decisions & bonding, esp. socially.
