Whataboutism in politics and both-sideism in mass media are poison to understanding, sanity and healthy conversation. It's rare that anything is completely one-sided (there is fake news grifters on the left, for example) but a lot of things aren't equally balanced. Just aren't.

Who on "the left" has been sticking up for Farrakhan? I've never heard anyone sane refer to him with anything but contempt.

You'll find excuse makers on any side of the political spectrum, but I agree that it just isn't equal at the moment.
