Lots of roads remain flooded and this stuff is being flown in as it gets donated. It's an appropriate and necessary method for immediate needs. I just saw that they took in all the non-perishable food already, and also learned that all hygiene products remain in need.

Also, Triangle people have largely emptied nearby stores of some of the most needed items, but I'm in Greensboro at the moment, so will raid the Dollar General stores on the way back especially for hygiene products—I'm told all categories are needed baby, adult, elderly.

The Dollar General with no manual can openers and depleted canned food shelves. Sorry, not sorry, next customer.
(I also heard the Target near RDU is giving 25% discount to hurricane relief purchases).pic.twitter.com/eS3fumCHMb

RDU General Aviation is bustling with activity and the nearby Target (Briar Creek, I think) is giving a 25 percent discount if you point out supplies are going to operation airdrop for hurricane relief. Just sayin’

Current needs! Elderly people and also pets have unmet needs, along with cleaning supplies. (See below). Don’t bring water (not efficient to fly), glass, aerosol cans or bleach. Today open till 9p, tomorrow open after 7:30a tomorrow (Sunday).pic.twitter.com/nXH5pjsBIZ

Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill folks: Operation Airdrop at RDU (pilots flying supplies to hard-to-reach parts of still-flooded NC and volunteers organizing stuff) needs... lots of coffee tomorrow (Sunday) morning.

DM me if you wanna help do some runs.

Folks can still help with Target egift cards (people get what seems necessary) but for local Triangle folks: I posted a list upthread that is current as of tonight (Saturday) as well as what not to bring. Can't go wrong with hygiene, non-perishable food.https://twitter.com/amchass/status/1043693579842011137 …

For context, see this from a pilot who flew today to Lumberton, NC. It's a poor town, prone to frequent floods. Pilots said he was told that "Operation Airdrop supplies into their airport were still their primary supply line for critical need items." https://www.facebook.com/groups/319817688781393/permalink/322986058464556/ …pic.twitter.com/ok3nPJrlBZ

Friends: Last day for these crucial airdrops to still-flooded, hard-to-reach NC areas. A day is a lot! They flew 103 times yesterday and some of the planes are huge! Lots of room. Target gift cards work great! We'll go grab whatever's most necessary. Link: https://www.target.com/gift-registry/giftgiver?registryId=671312efd1994289854ca6a210e7b115 …pic.twitter.com/rZBKPnauqx

Best way to help Operation Airdrop for NC now is to purchase a gift card from this Target registry: https://www.target.com/gift-registry/giftgiver?registryId=671312efd1994289854ca6a210e7b115 … Volunteers can grab what's missing in donations—for ex: elderly hygiene or pet needs. Local Target has discount for relief supplies. https://twitter.com/PamelaSchuur/status/1043853065273540608 …

Operation Airdrop at RDU is still bustling and whatever you bring today will be loaded onto planes today. (Some things will be trucked later as appropriate). Buy a gift card here: https://www.target.com/gift-registry/giftgiver?registryId=671312efd1994289854ca6a210e7b115 …pic.twitter.com/P816DjcXEk

If you are local, they’re taking all donations today—except water (not best to fly). We just heard from the pilots of a ~1000 person shelter in Brunswick county that ran out of everything. And Cape Fear is still rising. Non-perishable food, all hygiene. 25% off at local Target.pic.twitter.com/nppJgC98ul

But don’t bring bleach! Not flying bleach or detergent or water. (Though fine by me personally as today’s workout for me has been fishing bleach out of the donation boxes!

TFW when you pack every last broom and end up trying to clean the terminal with a squeegee! Terminal is now empty !!! except for two big loads headed to fly tomorrow morning to still hard-to-reach areas in Columbus county. Also the bullhorn has been hooked up to music, maybe.pic.twitter.com/uzD9HaOR7x

Also, we just got word that the last pilot landed. In the dark. To an airstrip with no personnel or lights! Apparently said “As long as the air strip didn’t move it should be fine”. And it was. That concludes Operation Airdrop. Recovery for NC though has barely began.pic.twitter.com/9PmihnsLc3
