I tried do decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics by sounding them out after seeing a phonetic chart in an encyclopedia. The words that came out made no sense. I assumed I had hit a logographic part. Didn’t occur to me ancient Egyptians wouldn’t be writing ... in Turkish. Duh.

I was five or six when I atttempted this, but I didn't realize what went wrong till many years later! Kinda didn't think about it, and then I remember going "OMG". Yes, I was a child autodidact, I didn't have reasonable formal education till about junior year of HS.
