He did not misspeak, and most everyone in that room understood exactly what he meant. This is the political realignment—that goes far beyond one person—sweeping the world.

It is not bungling words. It is exactly what the new era is about. It’s not funny. ::headdesk:: https://twitter.com/benjysarlin/status/1035525691339689984 …

Here’s a thread of mine from April, 2016—before the election. Pundits and explainers are mostly still missing the realignment. Don’t argue race vs. economy vs. culture as it they are separate. They aren’t. Don’t look for syllogisms; look for meaning.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/725310943819878401 …

I confess I don't understand your tweet. The deserving, per Trumpism, are only the white. So economic anxiety is not a joke - it's the code for racism. What am I missing? "They want to raid Medicare" and the understood next phrase is "to pay for shiftless black ppl/lazy illegals"

This was my takeaway as well, while at the same time wondering if I understood the tweet. Good to see I’m not alone haha

I would not say it is about to define deserving and the people - he genuinely aims to instigate a divide within working class and subaltern communities, or rather to exacerbate the extant antagonisms within working class itself (established through race, gender, culture, etc.)

I love how the black plant behind him isn’t even paying attention.
