New address and the few internet options are all highway robbery.
@GetSpectrum wants to charge an extra $15 if you want wifi. Whut? @ATT marketing a slug-slow $50-a-month copper line. "For elderly people on email, maybe?" technician said sheepishly. Tell me your horror stories!

Get wired-only modem and plug into your own wifi router. Spectrum routers are terrible anyway.

And yes, it is a cash grab on the technically non-inclined. Shades of renting your telephone from Ma Bell, back in the day.

I just did this with spectrum last week. A modem is different from a router. You can get them combined in a gateway or separately. You can buy them or lease them. What is your complaint exactly?

If theyre charging more to enable a software feature, thats just money grubbing. I can see the point if the $15 is a one-off for the hardware, but not a monthly rental. You could probably buy the same device unprovisioned for under $30. Is this for fiber/PON or cable/DOCSIS?

Personally I dont trust ISP provided hardware though. They often have unwanted shit in them. Eg, TR-069 and iptables rules to send analytical data home re social media usage
Im happy with my Cisco 2811 with HWIC-1ADSL, configured from scratch by myself. - Show replies
