naturally every publication in the world has written about it. the system workspic.twitter.com/DL3mD3cMVj
I can't decide if this is a case of nobody-tells-the-obvious-truths-to-a-billionnaire or clever-as-a-fox publicity scheme exploiting extreme media gullibility. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It has been 100% the former so far...
Dunno. I don't mind the impulse to help or to innovate at all, but the widespread gullible media coverage does make me wonder if the face-value stupidity to any domain expert is actually not as obvious? And nobody around rich people voices these things? Or, look, free publicity?
i have no idea of course but i suspect it's totally without guile. the media is letting him be Dr. Quest — he gets a rapturous reception for whatever he proposes, like the hyperloop, and it must be an enormous ego boost
Seriously every billionaire needs a truth-teller or two—not sure if they’d listen, but it would at least save the ones who’d like to not come across this badly. (Then again press coverage was inexplicably fawning or just reprinted PR releases with zero critical analysis).
I’m not now embedded in cave diving but have enough cave and diving experience (separately!) to immediately see the face-value stupidity. From what I can tell, the cave expert community responded with fear—that a star-struck govt official would let him try and likely kill people.
i haven't caved in years but the thought of lugging that man-sized torpedo through even a mildly challenging environment makes my head hurt
And we’ve already had an out-of-gas death—he was hauling a tank. May well have miscalculated the extra exertion. Had buddy—solid professional divers but not cavers. Alas. Also, there may well be room for rescue apparatus innovation. If one is serious, quiet is the way to go imo.
