I've been thinking about this actually!
I'm a lifelong science fiction reader and it's interesting how helpful some types of speculative fiction are to imagining sociotechnical paths—and how some of what's classified as "hard" science fiction is lacking in social imagination.https://twitter.com/KevinBankston/status/1016053168285896704 …
Fascinating, no? A lot of "hard" science fiction hasn't moved beyond Jetsons in terms of social analysis and yet a lot of great work that just hand-waves new worlds has been quite illuminating about the interaction between human condition and techno-ecology.

Here's a hilarious hard sci-fi comic that goes deep into modern social issues. Currently in a story arc about sentient robots receiving full human rights. http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff100/fv00001.htm …

And there's even a faction of robots worrying that post-scarcity world where sentient robots do all the work will be bad for humans. http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff3000/fc02982.htm …
