Part of the problem, I think, is that it's hard to measure and confirm good security in a device. So buyers discount security claims and stick with things they can confirm: Price, speed, etc.

It's also hard to confirm that a new house won't collapse on your head a week after you move in. We've solved that problem with mandatory safety inspections for new buildings.

There are relatively secure devices out there, they do cost more, and people don’t buy them. All we can really do is secure ourselves one device at a time.
