it's worth occasionally repeating that the premise that corporations owe a "fiduciary duty" to maximize shareholder rewards was made up by Friedman in the NYT in the 70s (the real meaning of "fiduciary duty" is: no lying, no negligence, no conflicts of interest, no law-breaking)

This reddit conversation is shifting me subtly from “(sheepishly) No, Go doesn't have generics” to “(proudly) No, Go doesn't have generics”. Can't decide whether would be proud, or be like, “I told you to get off my lawn years ago!”

Dear everyone who ever complained about 's lack of generics: what do you think of the current Rust discussion on compile times? Did you know they're talking about including a Rust interpreter in debug builds to speed things up?

Comprehensive unit tests are a terribly high price to pay for type-checking.

So, AT&T “expired” the plan I had, and rolled it on to a new plan that is the same as the old plan, except no HBO. I'm sure their contract allowed them to be weaselly, but good lord… I just want a plan that doesn't change, people! ps. please, don't send fake “real” responses…

For those not in the Apple II retrocomputing scene, 's AppleSauce is a marvel. Plugs into a disk drive (with optional rotation sensor), then uses an unbelievable array of clever engineering and tricks to read old disks, fix errors, preserve copy-protection weirdness.

⁩ did you change something with my account that definitely included free hbo when I signed up for it and for several years?

Dear twitter friends. Our home-built CI system does a two-phase test: first figure out what tests need to be run, based on code (Go) or BUILD file (Java) dependencies. Then partition, and spin up a bunch of workers to actually run the tests. Do any CI systems do that?

I am dying to see a Key & Peele sketch where white people can't go outside because the drones will kill them, but the facial recognition still doesn't work on black people.

Oh, nevermind. `cue vet` seems to accept any number of yaml files. Sweet!

Hey - quick Cue question. I've extracted our app config files into 100s of yaml config files in a single dir, and wish to start validating just the top-level "foo" entry. Any pointers on how to get started with that? It doesn't quite match the kube tutorial…

Young developer who's only worked on personal codebases or small teams: “This prescriptive style guide / required non-configurable auto-formatter is tyranny!!” Developer experienced with large, mature codebases (bleeding slightly from the eyes): “The horror … THE … HORROR!“

Now that I think about it, keeping it secretive would be _courting_ Vox “Mind the Gap” coverage. I should delete these tweets…

Hey , do you have a linkable version of your Great Slate email, to show to people not on your mailing list, or are you trying to avoid Vox “Mind the Gap” coverage? 😂
