Plus the tech isn't there yet. Just look at what little all the forces at Disney could pull off with Rogue One. Also, there's a small segment of people who get physically ill from the Uncanny Valley effect. My Mom is one. If the effect is lifelike-but-not-quite-there, she pukes.
I have talked to friends about this for YEARS and no one ever believed me that the industry would stoop this low once tech got better. i'm surprised (not in a bad way) that it took them this long. it was already weird when they did it with olivier in SKY CAPTAIN. using sean young's likeness in blade runner and peter cushing / carrie fisher in ROGUE ONE sort of made sense in context, but yeah, this is different

It was pretty gross in rogue one, too. There were artistic ways to do it that would have achieved the same effect without completely sucking viewers out of a space opera and casting them into a horror film. I was massively creeped out the whole time.

Further proof that there are no new ideas for Hollywood and that not even death is sacred anymore. Also if the cgi is used to produce his image, I'm fairly sure they still need a LIVING actor for the voice, which would cost less to just hire that goddamn guy for the part.
