You want to just do it yourself or looking at a larger goal? I think this is what this project supposed to do. https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/partner …

Yes, that crap is what I'm talking about. Look: https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/asset/portrait-of-joseph-roulin/dgHM8pgTjWF6Cg … or https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/asset/sunflowers/hwEGmsM-FoHAwA … That photo sucks ass. Van Gogh did not add lens vignetting to his paintings, and that's a miserable size. You need something at print quality at least, but they block it.

Not to mention they dropped the chroma on that portrait of Joseph Roulin but increased the yellow on the sunflowers. I've seen both of these paintings so I might even have my photo to compare, but you can't do a master copy from these at all.

I can appreciate that. I’m not knowledgeable enough to tell the difference.

Basically, museums make money of selling books with "official" prints so they never want print quality photos out there. If you make a print they try to claim copyright, but you can't claim it on a 500, 300, or 200 year old painting.
