I found out that people who race drones use something called a Runcam. It records 4k@30fps for 1 hour, and weighs 58g. Here it is (orange) compared to the gopro I used. It’s so small and light I can now velcro it to my gear instead of using clamps like with the gopro.pic.twitter.com/63YfxEQ8QU
Smalrig makes DIY filming rig building parts. They’re the only company that actually makes an aluminum rod for 1/8” camera mount screws. The rod on the right is a huge carbon fiber I used, which is now replaced by the little rod at the end of this clamp. One less rod to pack.pic.twitter.com/7UptHNBLuA
With this smaller and lighter gear I now don’t need as many clamps all over my easel. I can use velcro for at least 2 cameras, and two small clamps on my tripod for the others. Also, using smaller cameras gets them out of my way while I paint.
What’s amazing is within 1 year the size of everything shrank to maybe 1/20th size of last year. Partly that’s experience but the tech shrinkage is a major part of it. I may have to weigh it all to compare.
