trying Affinity Publisher to see if it can replace my light typesetting tool of choice, Pages 09, which was actually perfect before they ruined it

i know how to use quark. i know how to use indesign. pages 09 was, in fact, the perfect tool for anything that isn't going to become a mass-produced physical book.

literally 2 minutes of actual use and i've discovered a tremendous rendering bug. that grey block with faint outline is actually part of the page. it should be white. zooming in & out fixes it.pic.twitter.com/x0BINTMAXR

ok i figured updating styles out (it's clumsy af and seems buggy) is it just me or is this text-rendering terrible? i'm using Times New Roman not cuz i like it but bc we all know how it looks (on a mac)pic.twitter.com/98rRVCwBNa

ok i'm doing a shoot-out… as close as i can get. one of these looks… off. is affinity not using the native OS X font rendering?pic.twitter.com/2evh0PQETk

I’m mostly using it as an alternative to PowerPoint (and they should really release that product). I run it on Windows and OSX and I can try to load a sample on both. If it looks the same on both then they use their own font renderer?

no need, but thanks for the offer! they're definitely using their own. the os x comparison is on the right. (if you pay attention to typography) they're very different :( i requested a refund. sigh!!

So what’s the issue? Is there a quality problem or does it significantly alter your original on import?
