Dear #believeinfilm -ers, is there any point in digitizing negatives with something like a Sony NEX-5 and an old macro lens or would I need some better digital camera for it to be viable? Desperately looking for some budget-friendly home scanning solution.

Next, get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/ChromLives-Articulating-Friction-Adjustable-Microphone/dp/B07DGRHQF7/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=11%22+magic+arm&qid=1589323686&sr=8-1 … But you might want to try just your tripod above a short table and the camera pointed down. Then, get a digital camera, and just photograph the film in the holder on the light table. You probably already have one.

This will end up giving you *way* better scans than if you used a flatbed, and let you control everything about the final image since you're using a digital camera and can look through the back panel. Get it fine tuned and you can crank through tons of photos pretty quick.
