Tonight’s Gouache study of Pololū Valley. This time I did a watercolor underpainting then mostly covered it with gouache. Seems to work similar to how pastel works with an alcohol wash first to save a layer.pic.twitter.com/xvkY5VrLiE

I like it a lot. Taking a pastel course right now and just getting to the underpainting section.
@JDonaldson_art has some great gouache type tutorials.
Pastels are awesome. I love them, especially for portraits. But, when I travel pastels are the worst. Like carrying a 20 lbs bag of very delicate rocks on the plane.

Very expensive rocks! Have you seen the http://heilmandesigns.com boxes? They function as both a protective case and a stand / work surface when attached to a tripod. Backpack size holds 250 1/2 sticks weighs about 7 lbs full.
