Tonight’s Gouache study of Pololū Valley. This time I did a watercolor underpainting then mostly covered it with gouache. Seems to work similar to how pastel works with an alcohol wash first to save a layer.pic.twitter.com/xvkY5VrLiE

It’s something all artists struggle with, but the thing to realize is more is not perfect. Instead you try to see what you can get away with using less. It also helps to realize people are visually dumb and don’t even notice 90% of details.
One exercise is to keep a “stroke count” and attempt a painting. If you have to record each stroke and any time you put paint on it makes you make them have impact. Also setting a time limit and doing small paintings.
