Great rundown on masks, the different types, how effective they are, whether a plain old surgical mask works (it does), and all referencing research...unlike every doctor saying don't use them:https://fastlifehacks.com/n95-vs-ffp/

The graph for the lazy. References two studies that compared N95 vs. surgical masks for protection *from* other people with flu. Studies were small and with flu, but flu is similar size and transmission mechanisms. Those two small studies of flu reported:pic.twitter.com/VnhnZBtBOz

Of course this makes sense and attacks a particular argument I hate: A surgical mask is not 100% effective, therefore you shouldn't use anything at all. Logically *some* kind of barrier is better than zero barrier, so this is obviously false. N95 masks are also not 100% so....

One of the other rationales for "nobody who's healthy should wear masks" is that you won't use it right. Alright then, if a surgical mask provides about 80% of the protection of an N95--and is cheaper and easier to use--then that gives it an advantage and people should wear them

Doctors are notorious for demanding the public do damaging things in their own self-interest. You know how they refuse to give out antibiotics to protect *you* from resistant bacteria? No, it's to protect them, and you can just die fighting off that infection.

You can also bet that these same doctors who refuse to give out antibiotics for basic bacterial infections, and that tell the public to not wear masks so they can have them, also hand out masks and antibiotics like candy to their families and the wealthy.

I think the other stupid thing is you'll hear them say "Oh but we wear that sugical mask to protect *you* from our infection!" So, this magic piece of cloth somehow only stops droplets of infection when going ... one direction? Does that mean I can just wear it backwards?

Replying to @zedshaw
There’s at least some truth to that, because you can get infected via eyes etc. But yeah, it’s silly in general.

So, again because it's not 100% effective over the entire face people should not wear them at all? Then even N95 masks shouldn't be worn, but you see hospitals and governments scrambling for them...which means that's false.
