That spike from Korea in the 20-29 age range is mostly from the one Christian group that got it first. If you’re going to tweet a graph research it first, especially if it looks unbelievable.https://twitter.com/markwby/status/1238867143363567616 …

Here’s something that’s absolutely terrifying: a comparison of the age distributions of Covid-19 cases in Italy, where they are only testing people who show symptoms, and S. Korea, which has broad testing. A whole lot of 20-29yos out there who feel just fine but are v contagious. pic.twitter.com/BU96h3VKUc

Strictly-speaking true (the majority of known cases originated from Shincheonji) but I'm not sure how it refutes the original tweet. It's true that many infections in younger people are mild (e.g. patient 0 in Germany thought she had a cold and returned to work a day later)

      1. He states the cause is Korea testing, but assignable cause is one religious group that was ultra stupid. 2. It has no demographic value. If you remove just those cases it suddenly looks like a normal curve. 3. It is not "TERRIFYING", there is no correlation with testing.

I think the point is that Italy is only testing folks who are in bad condition, so their results of infection skew older. Korea is testing everyone, and their results show folks in their 20s are infected too.

No, the point is SCAARRRRYYYYY ITALY ISN'T TESTING AND THERE'S HIDDEN 20-29 YEAR OLDS WHO WILL DIIIEEEEEEE. That's the bullshit. The age range has nothing to do with it, it's a one-off anomaly in that one graph in a very particular situation that won't be replicated. Bet you.

Ahhh, Thanks for sticking with me. I think I understand where our thoughts diverge now. I figured the issue was not young people dying so much as carrying the infection to others who might.

That's the fear mongering. He found one graph, of one incident in time, then turned into Millenial Walking dead. Ask yourself, why didn't find a graph like this anywhere else? China had more cases in a higher concentrated area and did more testing, they would have seen it too.

I'll put it one more way: Do you seriously think that if a disease infected people 20-29 years old at THAT much higher of a rate that no other country except Korea (who didn't do more than China, or Bahrain per million)? That would be seen everywhere, not in one place.

Then if the infection rate in this one tiny demographic was that insane it'd be major news. We knew old people died fast right away. Would it be Koreans only? That's nuts, nothing about being 20-29 in Korea makes you vulnerable (except maybe liking BTS).

Good point I hadn't considered. My frame of reference was thinking Korea was more liberal in their testing than Italy had been, and that b/c of it, they uncovered a group who was being infected, passing that on, but not bad enough to hospitalize. Will try to find China numbers.

Look for Bahrain too. They did the most per-capita testing of anyone. They have 6.1k/1mill people. I'll be you $100 to charity, they don't have this spike at that age.
