I don’t know _much_, but I can def share our experience. We have solar for electric including sharing back to the grid; and for hot water. (We don’t have batteries.)

One weird unexpected thing: because the solar panels are on the roof and essentially gobbling up energy they basically provide shade and a form of insulation to the house, which means less energy spent for cooling in summer and fewer thermal losses when heating.
