That's because you aren't used to drawing on a paper straight up. Usually you tilt it to match your hand. Are you right or left handed? Put the paper on the same side as your hand you write with. Then, put the object on the other side, and behind it more. Then:
lol uhh i didn’t hold the paper straight up, i had the stuff elevated and the paper flat on the table. derp! i’ll try that next time and right-handed
Ahhhhhh, then you actually kind of did it in perspective, but reversed. Think about it. If the object is straight up, but your paper is slanted back, then it'll be warped. In fact, this was a trick to make a drawing that looked like nothing until you were at an angle in room.

1. Think about the process of drawing like a optics and physics problem. If you took a photo and had the sensor/film tilted away from the lens like that wouldn't get warped? Same deal. You're basically using your eye as a lens and the paper as a film.
