Designer Question: See how the colors go from dark to light in each row? What do you (or designers in general) call that?
That's another saying I've heard too. It really is constant, and hammered in as the most important part of developing a painting. It makes sense. If you can't see color you can still see. If you can't see value you just see a mess of color and are basically blind.

I don't know how readily it could be demoed now, but the separate luminance and chrominance channels on analogue TV make that point, that chroma without luma is weird-looking, but luma only is just black-and-white TV
