The show opens with narration from Dion's mom that is horrendous and just tells you the whole story. It could have been completely cut, but I just *know* some douchebag at Netflix productions insisted that idiots "In The Midwest" wouldn't understand the show without it.

Then for a good 2 episodes it's tough to shake this opening. It gives the whole show a 1980's sitcom vibe and a cutsie tutsie feel like it's an episode of Growing Pains with minor super powers. Ja'Siah Young's performance saves the show though as he manages to pull the show back

So I find it interesting that the Raising Dion starts off with a terrible formulaic sitcom tone, proceeds with this tone, and it's the acting of a young hilariously authentic boy who brings the show back to be more real and interesting.
