Hilarious observation about Thais and escalators: In Bangkok you have many ways to get around: Two subway/skytrains: BTS and MRT, taxi, tuktuk, mopeds, and walking. Mopeds are the craziest shit I've ever seen. The literally do not give a fuck about any laws of universe.

Mopeds operate like taxis to book one, and then operate like a mad max beyond thunderdome death ride. Young Thai school girls will hop on one, sit side saddle, legs dangling out, texting and not paying attention while the moped dashes between cars, up sidewalks, in a suicide run

BTS and MRT are great transit systems, and the stations are ultra clean with very nice escalators. ESCALATORS OF DOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!! Every subway station on almost ever car has extensive 10 minute videos about all the way you can die on an escalator.

Looking at your phone on an escalator? DEAD! Old man on an escalator? DEAD! Shoelaces untied? DEAD and the two people next to you? DEAD DEAD! Casually looking to your left when you get off the escalator? SO FUCKING DEAD BRO! Thais take these escalators SERIOUS!

They walk up to the escalator and start trying to time it, looking down, stuttering, holding everyone up, it's like Indiana Jones trying to snatch that gold statue off and they have to get this timing just right...wait....wait WAIT YOU'RE GOING TO DIE! Whew! Just made it!

I am in Bangkok as well, and I have noticed that perversion with escalators as well (not much different from HK or Taipei though). The part that always makes me giggle is when they say "Take care of your children"

Oh! Then they got on a moped with their toddler, no strap, no safety, no helmet, hand the toddler to the driver, and ride off down the street between cars no problem. BUT WATCH OUT FOR THAT BABY EATING ESCALATOR!
