First day in Shinjuku Tokyo and walked all over. People are not exaggerating when they rave about how clean the city is, but I can put it in better perspective: It’s more crowded than NYC but smells like febreeze and it’s so quiet you’d think a virus wiped out the city.

The quiet seems normal as you walk around during the day while people are at work as the streets are slightly empty but as the streets fill you are walking through large mobs of people and it’s dead quiet still. Just rustling of clothes and a bit of talking, some car noises.

I've only been through NYC once, and rats and hot garbage are on point. I've been to Hong Kong a couple times, and it sounds like it's a lot like Tokyo - big city, yet clean!

Tokyo is so clean if I dropped a burrito on the ground I’d be angry I did something so offensive and also probably still consider eating it.

Can you describe the sound more? Does it feel intentionally sterilized or more like it's thoughtfully kept quiet? Not sure what you just activated in my brain but apparently ambient sound is really important to me. Is the sound level unsettling or tranquil?
