In fact, my Number 1 red flag now for a startup is if they tout partying as a perk. They’ll claim they work hard but realy they just fuck off and party for 12 hours then work for 4. They also protect this drug induced culture bu spinning it as a Liberal attitude.

A culture of hedonism is the inverse of progressive values because every hedonist lifestyle requires some form of exploitation. The entire concept of a Libtertine come from oppressive opulent despot kings so it can’t be a progressive world view that abhors exploitation.

So at these companies they basically use progressive values and fake caring for the poor as a way to shield their obviously exploitative hedonism from criticism and legal issues. If you don’t believe me, read the article:https://www.wsj.com/articles/this-is-not-the-way-everybody-behaves-how-adam-neumanns-over-the-top-style-built-wework-11568823827?mod=rsswn …

We’s CEO commits crimes that poor people are jailed for (transporting a pound of drugs internationally), cheats the employees on stock options, and other evils then covers for it with crap like “finding homes for children without parents”. The poor are the hedonist’s shield.

See? Told you WeWork is nuts: https://www.businessinsider.com/wework-rebekah-neumann-adam-gwyneth-paltrow-energy-goop-2019-9 … While firing employees for “energy” they also probably rant about anti-vaxxers being against science then gran an amethyst crystal to calm their spirit down.

My husband is same (never drank, no religious reason) and working in tech has been challenging to say the least. Let this culture die out. It’s overdue.

Especially when the culture ends up destroying lives by lying about the possible addiction problems associated with it. I know so many people who became addicts and lost everything because of this, but they claim it doesn’t harm anyone. At least be honest about what can happen.

I drink alcohol but don't really consider it appropriate for a work setting. Same thing with pets in the workplace. And yeah, I've been inside one of these party shops and you do get ostracized for being 'not fun.'
-
In my case I don’t care at all if other people drink as long as it really is a “victimless crime”. In reality though there’s plenty of abuse fueled by the drug culture at these places to the point that I think it’s more about the abuse than the hedonism.
