I am officially calling super bullshit on this "Stripe is So Perfect" blog post: https://markmcgranaghan.com/lessons-from-stripe … I talked to the founder a couple times and my impression is he was just a typical Silicon Valley fake positivist who was passive aggressive to cover his arrogance.

Maybe. But speaking as a customer, they're great. Great APIs, great documentation, reasonable pricing.

Not really. Pretty much the same APIs, Docs, and pricing as Paypal, plus with Paypal I rarely pay chargeback fees due to their excellent fraud prevention.

They exist as a company because their docs and APIs are better than Paypal's. They wouldn't have got off the ground without that. I haven't run into fraud problems, but I'm not denying your experience.

None of that is true anymore. Paypal's done a lot of work since being ejected from eBay, and now they're pretty similar, except Paypal actually calls me periodically to make sure I'm doing great. Stripe just took money from me for their failures at fraud.

I've heard Paypal's API have got better. Haven't needed to check it out so far.

I ran both for a while, just in case. The code was nearly the exact same to do both, so I had a little abstraction for it. When stripe fraud got too much I just flipped a switched and was on paypal in a few hours. It's got some cruft, but code and docs isn't worth the cost.
