Absentia is very much on the ridiculous side, being kind of a show that only works if many characters are total idiots. But, it did an excellent job of keeping the mystery. I had no idea who the perpetrator was until the very reveal, and I'm usually good at guessing in 10 min.
Like, seriously think about it. In your city, if you wanted to have an elaborate underground lair AND be able to snatch people and take them there without being seen, where would you do it? Nowhere right? It has to be somewhere very far away.

But, nope, the bad guy in Absentia somehow can snatch random people in the night, drive them for just a little while, and put them in a huge underground lair, but the good guys can't find it even though it's near Boston. It has another related trope too:

Without any explanation, the bad guy seems to be able to teleport wherever the main character is located. The bad guy is even in one location then mysteriously is there to frame the protagonist for another murder in another location at the same time.
